Region 1 Set for 2013 Labor Day                                                                April 15, 2013

The Department of Labor and Employment Region 1 - Regional Coordinating Council convened on Friday April 12, 2013 at the NCMB - RB1 Conference Room for preparations in the upcoming Labor Day Celebration on the following month.

DOLE-RCC Chairman Grace Y. Ursua (far back) discusses details of the upcoming 2013 Labor Day
activities at the NCMB RB1 Conference Room on Friday, April 12, 2013 along with the other RCC heads.

DOLE RO1 Director Grace Y. Ursua, assisted by ARD Florence Marie G. Ulep, highlighted that this year's Labor Day celebrations in the region will be significantly different as compared to the previous years.

"The event will be a two-day jobs fair and a three-way venue," the RCC Chairman said. "The venues are going to be SM City Rosales, Robinson's - Calasiao, and Batac, Ilocos Norte," she added. "It's going to be a simultaneous event in those three areas and we hope to deliver better services with this year's Labor Day Program."

To emphasize her point, she was quoted saying: "In order to extend better services and accommodate more of those who are seeking employment opportunities, the jobs fair at SM City Rosales will run until May 2, 2013."

The event, dubbed as Jobs Fair cum One-Stop Services, will not only offer job opportunities through DOLE's partnership with business firms but will also provide frontline services from Social Security System and Philhealth. A livelihood fair has also been included in the cocktail of features characterizing the event.

A number of the agency members of the DOLE-RCC will be chipping in their own "pakulo." TESDA RO1 Director Cesar M. Querubin said that they will offer free massage therapy at Robinson's - Calasiao and will try to work on offering the same at SM City - Rosales.

OWWA OIC Gerry Rimorin added that their agency will provide "Libreng Tawag Para sa OFW" at SM City - Rosales. NCMB OIC Director Helena R. Flores committed to extending the Branch's services also at the said venue.

"Let's make this Labor Day worthy for what it's for," Director Ursua said.

Among the major discussions during the meeting was NCMB's 2013 Search for Best Practices on Workplace Harmony and Productivity. OIC Director Helena R. Flores discussed and informed the body about the details of the upcoming Search for Outstanding LMC for Industrial Peace and Best Enterprise-Based Dispute Resolution
