Injured Craftsman Handed Medical Assistance thru SENA

by: Lester B. Panem, Senior LEO

Ronel Tadena came with a left hand wrapped with medical gauze to file his Request for Assistance at the National Conciliation and Mediation Board Regional Office No. 1 on October 1, 2014.

Tadena worked as contracted craftsman at Kalipayan Furnitures, a furniture-crafting industry in La Union. He said he got the injury while rendering his services.

“According to Tadena, he was only given a P1,000 assistance from his employer when his left hand needed stitching after having been cut through between his thumb and index finger in an accident,” said Director Brenda Rose C. Odsey of NCMB RB1.

Mr. and Mrs. Abdul, owners of the furniture business, came even with their barangay captain on the October 8, 2014 conciliation conference.

Parties discussed Tadena’s payment for his contracted services and after thorough considerations of their individual logbooks, they have agreed for the amount of P4,500. Tadena was offered an additional amount of P2,000 as medical assistance.

He received the latter during the conference and received payment of his services on October 23, 2014 at NCMB Regional Office No. 1.

“We were observed by the barangay captain who came with the respondents and was able to relate to the work of our SEADOs,” noted Director Odsey of the Branch. “We told him that ours is more regulated and tempered as compared to their setting and he was rather impressed,” Odsey noted.
